Hostels
Hostels are most often the cheapest option lodging (also known as accommodation in the UK), especially when traveling by yourself. Hostels vary widely in size, personality, and services. Some include breakfast, sheets, and towels in the price per night, while others require you to pay an extra cost for these same services. Also, some hostels have lockers, while others do not, so be prepared with locks for your luggage. Hostels rent per bed, and rooms can vary anywhere between four and twenty beds. At the same time, they are a great opportunity to meet other travelers and share stories and tips about destinations. Hotels
If you are traveling with more than one person, you may want to consider booking a cheap hotel room. Rooms may cost more, but divide the price by two people and it can cost the same as a bed in a hostel. Hotels also often provide information for tours and attractions, store your bags at no extra cost on the day you are planning to leave. STA travel can book hotels. Bed & Breakfasts
Bed and Breakfasts are a great option for relaxing in a cozy, personal atmosphere while traveling. They offer personal services and are very accommodating. B&B's generally cost more than hostels, but again the cost can be divided if traveling in a group. Camping
Camping is the cheapest option for accommodation while traveling. If you are camping, chances are you will be staying some distance away from city centers, especially in metropolitan areas. Economically speaking then, the cost may even itself out with hostels because of the need for transportation to and from your campsite. You also need a tent and sleeping bag...with limited packing space for four months, these are probably items which you won't be bringing with you while you study abroad. If you are interested in camping, check with national tourist offices of your destination for information.
