About
Cycling

Cycling is an inexpensive way to get around London. This year has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people cycle commuting to work. The city of London has started a major initiative to become the most cycle friendly city in Europe. People of all ages can be found cycling on London streets.

Safety
London's streets are often busy and crowded. When cycling around the city it is suggested to wear a protective helmet. You will often see cyclists wearing masks because of the high amount of diesel exhaust. Although it is suggested to wear a mask, it is not required.

Theft
Just like any other large city, theft can occur at any time. Common objects stolen are wheels, seats, loose objects, and in some cases the entire bike.  Preventive measures can be taken to ensure the safety of your bike such as using a strong solid lock when chaining up.

Trains & the Tube
Cycles which do not fold may be taken free of charge on the Circle, District, East London, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. They may also be taken on the sections of the Bakerloo, Central, Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines which are at street level. This does not apply between 7:30am and 9:30am or between 4:00pm and 7:00pm Monday through Friday (except Public Holidays). Cycles may not be taken on the Dock lands Light Railway at any time.

There are some restrictions on the National Rail services and there may be a charge - check with the operator for details. 084 5748-4950

If you choose not to bring or purchase your own bike while you are here, you do have the option of renting one.
