Buying Books

Students are encouraged to purchase books before coming to London so that they are ready to begin class when they arrive in London. One of the schools may offer to sell books through order forms. Amazon.com will give you better prices on books, if you intend on purchasing before you leave. If you purchase upon arrival in London, Waterstone's has the biggest bookstore in all of Europe on Piccadilly Street. Amazon.co.uk is the Amazon.com counterpart that will deliver to addresses in the UK.

Renting Movies

For entertainment, students can rent movies at the video store on Earl's Court road. There are not VCR's in the flats, but they are available for a small rental fee. Students can also rent DVD's. Be warned: if you rent a DVD to watch on your laptop, you have to change your region code on your laptop so that you can view the DVD, because it is not formatted the same as an American version of the same movie. Most laptops only let you do this 4 times, so be careful with this, especially if you also decide to bring movies from home.

There is also a cinema in Leicester Square that has pound movies certain nights of the week. Check Time Out magazine, or other movie listings to find out what is showing. Otherwise, be prepared to fork over 9 pounds on average to see a movie in the cinemas in London.
