Cleaning

Dishes

The flats are cleaned once a week by the cleaning staff. You are still required to wash your own dishes. To prevent a pile up and a dirty mess it might be a good idea to develop some kind of system with your roommates. Starting this from the beginning could also prevent possible tantrums throughout the semester with flat mates! Some suggestions would be putting together a list of chores and assigning someone's name to it each week. Also a rule that most go buy is once you are finished with a dish, make sure YOU wash it.

Recycling

Recycling bins are not provided. If you want to recycle you can pick up an orange tag from certain places around London. The closest place that provides these tags would be the library. You wrap the orange tag around the recyclables and place them in the same area that you place your regular rubbish.

Garbage pick up

As mentioned before, there is a regular maid that cleans up your flat once a week. She will take out your garbage on that day but you and your flat mates are responsible to change it every other time. Make sure that you are using black trash bags because the garbage will not be collected otherwise. Each of the buildings have a rubbish closet located down the stairs on the basement level. Be sure to keep the door to the rubbish locked/closed. Since it is located below the street level, it is susceptible to mice/rats.

Laundry

There are no laundry facilities located in either of the residential flats. There are laundry mats located all around the Earl's Court area. The laundry mat on Earl's Court is called Suds. If you are pressed for time or just do not feel like doing your own laundry, you can drop off your dirty clothes. They charge you per load, based on lights and darks. The general charges are 6 pounds, 8 pounds, and 10 pounds. There is another laundry mat that is located almost directly across the street from 40 Hogarth. It is called Washerette. You can do your laundry here for 2 pounds and 60 pence per load, plus the cost of drying. Again, they provide a wash and dry service. You can drop your laundry off between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. They also charge by the load, but you can get about 2 loads washed and dryed for 10 pounds.
